Dr Stephen Coogan
Dr Stephen Coogan offers patient centred individualised care to women and their families through pregnancies and beyond. As he undertook five years of physician training before making the move to O&G, he maintains a special interest in high-risk pregnancies with a background that has enabled a unique perspective into complex medical, obstetric and gynaecological issues. He liaises closely with subspecialty colleagues on a regular basis.
Dr Coogan was born and bred in Sydney, attending Sydney Grammar and The King’s School. He later completed his medical training in Ireland at The Royal College of Surgeons.
On his return to Australia in the late 1980s, Dr Coogan commenced the physician training rotation at St Vincent’s Hospital (Darlinghurst) before undertaking O&G training at The Royal Hospital for Women (Randwick), and Royal North Shore Hospital (St Leonards). He spent two years in Salisbury and Portsmouth, United Kingdom, before returning to Sydney in 2002 to set up practice with Dr Hawke. Together, they have been providing obstetric and gynaecological care at Prince of Wales Private Hospital and The Royal Hospital for Women since that time.
Dr Coogan has been involved in registrar training and supervision since 2002, and has been a member of the RHW Clinical Council, Chair of the Senior Medical Staff Council, a member of the area health Medical and Dental Appointments committee, on the LHD Senior Medical Executive Council, clinical liaison and supervisor of the GP Shared Care Scheme, and a member of the AVANT Medical Experts Committee.
